GREAT LEIGHS GETS PROVISIONAL GO-AHEAD

17 Apr 2008 Pre-2014 Releases

Following an inspection by the British Horseracing Authority鈥檚 Racecourse Inspectorate earlier today, Great Leighs has been given the provisional go-ahead to race on Sunday, pending a final inspection tomorrow morning.

There are several areas that still need some further work, which is ongoing.

Paul Struthers, BHA spokesman, said:

鈥淕reat Leighs has made excellent progress and addressed the vast majority of issues that were outstanding when our Inspectorate visited on Sunday, but there are still five key areas that are being completed this afternoon, including the emergency services road.

鈥淗owever, as the racecourse is so close to meeting the necessary standards laid out in our General Instructions, we felt it would be premature to abandon the meeting, particularly mindful of connections planning to run.

鈥淚n order to minimise any potential inconvenience to trainers, a final decision will be taken by 9am tomorrow and, in the unlikely event that the outstanding issues have not been addressed by that time, the meeting will be abandoned; all trainers with entries will be informed via the Weatherbys text service and entry fees will be refunded.鈥
