Over 500 equine college students, lecturers and schoolchildren will converge on Newbury racecourse tomorrow for the second careersinracing.com Careers Fair. Organised by the British Horseracing Authority, the day鈥檚 programme provides a complete overview of the diverse employment and career opportunities available within the Racing Industry.
Compere Simon Mapletoft will open the day鈥檚 events, which will start with a presentation on the Breeding Industry by Caroline Turnbull of the Thoroughbred Breeders Association, after which trainer Mark Usher will give an in depth talk on the workings of a racing yard.
Activities on the day also include a riding demonstration by a jockey on a mechanical horse, a tour of the racecourse and weighing room, and a presentation from Debbie Bayliss of the National Association of Stable Staff on the benefits of working in the Racing Industry. Sara Hay-Jahans, the British Horseracing Authority鈥檚 Head of Industry Recruitment and Training, will close the presentations with recommendations on training and career options for career advisors.
A wide range of information stands will be on site, with representatives from the British Racing School, Northern Racing College, Warwickshire College, Racing Welfare and Weatherbys all offering advice on specific employment areas within the Industry, and providing networking opportunities between Industry groups, colleges and students.
Tomorrow鈥檚 event comes ahead of a second careersinracing.com Careers Fair which will take place at Uttoxeter racecourse on Wednesday 17th October.
