Commenting on last nigh4_x0019_s BBC Panorama programme, BHB Communications Manager Alan Delmonte said today:
鈥淟ast night鈥檚 Panorama programme was selective and incomplete in a number of respects and was deliberately intended to portray both the Jockey Club and Racing鈥檚 integrity function in an unfavourable light. Those who are quick to criticise should bear in mind that the integrity of British Racing continues to be renowned throughout the world and that the Racing Authorities remain absolutely determined to ensure that this enviable position is maintained.
鈥淭his is not to say that, as the governing body of British Racing, BHB ignores genuine concerns or complacently dismisses the negative impression which the programme will no doubt have left with some viewers.
鈥淏HB鈥檚 Racing Review Committee, which began its work in June and is expected to report by April 2003, is considering in detail all aspects of British Racing and its product. This includes a review of the composition and scope of integrity services and the financial, administrative and governance structure of the sport. The Review will be consulting widely as Racing seeks to confirm the optimum means of maintaining the integrity and reputation of the sport.
鈥淚n the short-term, BHB will not be drawn into making knee-jerk reactions and the BHB Board will discuss the programme at its regular monthly meeting this coming Thursday.鈥
