12 Jul 2019 BHA Features Racing/Fixtures

海角大神 (BHA) has today announced that Worcester’s fixtures on 18 and 25 July have been abandoned due to irrigation issues at the track.

New Jump fixtures will take place as follows:

18 July – Ffos Las (Evening fixture)
25 July – Southwell (Afternoon fixture)

Ffos Las on 18 July聽 will be a seven-race card, with entries closing at 12 noon tomorrow, Saturday 13 July.聽Declarations will be as normal by 10am on Wednesday 17 July.

Southwell on 25 July will also be a seven-race card, with entries closing at 12 noon on Friday 19 July. Declarations will be as normal by 10am on Wednesday 24 July.

Race conditions, times and further fixture information will available via the Racing Admin site shortly.

Arena Racing Company Racing Director Jon Pullin commented:

鈥淔ollowing the unseasonable flooding of the River Severn in June, parts of the track at Worcester Racecourse spent a total of eight days under water.聽 Whilst this is not an unexpected occurrence during winter months, it is not something that would usually occur during Worcester鈥檚 racing season between May and October.

“Whilst the floodwaters have receded and we have been able to race twice since, the areas of the track predominantly affected by the flooding (which have not been required at either of these two meetings) have not recovered to the degree we had hoped by this stage.聽 As such, the fixtures scheduled for Worcester on Thursday 18 and Thursday 25 July will be abandoned.

“We anticipate that this extra time will give those parts of the track at Worcester adequate time to recover alongside all of the remedial work that is being undertaken by our Grounds Team for the fixture scheduled for Tuesday 30 July, and will offer further updates in due course.鈥
